Our Heritage. In 1896, J. Smith Lanier founded Interstate and Valley Telephone Companies and began a 109-year tradition of providing quality telephone service. Interstate and Valley Telephone serves over 23,000 access lines in Georgia and Alabama, while its employees serve a population of approximately 35,000 in a 232-square mile area. The companies also provide telecommunications services in LaGrange, Newnan and Columbus, GA and the Auburn and Opelika, AL, areas.
